The most popular orthodontic appliance is the fixed braces. The devices are attached to the teeth and hence called fixed braces. The patient cannot remove the device and yet the braces are capable of initiating movement of teeth to the correct position.
Fixed appliances are used when skeletal discrepancies range from mild to moderate and precise tooth movements are indicated. Other uses include intrusion and extrusion of teeth, correcting rotation, reduction of overbite caused due to the intrusion of incisors, a single arch requiring multiple tooth movements, and hypodontia where active space closures may be required. There are several components of the fixed appliances such as ligature, archwire, brackets, metal band and elastic hooks with rubber bands. Metal or elastic separators may be used to create space for banding the teeth. Biocompatible archwires with a springback and formability properties are used in the beginning.
Treatment at Dental Solutions, Bangalore
At Dental Solutions fixed orthodontic treatments come in three types:
The regular braces which are highly popular come with metal or plastic brackets that are bonded to the surface of the teeth with cemented bands on the molars. They are made of stainless steel; are highly effective and considered one of the fastest methods of aligning teeth.
Damon braces use gentle pressure to align teeth with the bracket and the archwire being installed first. This eliminates traditional archwire placements that would cause friction between the brackets. Adjusted similar to traditional braces, Damon braces are self-ligating and use a slide mechanism where the brackets and wires are attached to allow natural movement even as the teeth are aligned.
Clear braces are not noticeable and made of hard crystalline acrylic and blend with the colour of the teeth. They are considered as the most cosmetic and hygienic alternative to metal braces.
A preliminary examination will be conducted to review all medical and dental history of the patient prior to the treatment. Dr. Balu Subramanya and Dr. Ramya are established Dental Surgeons who assess the biological and technical limitations of the patient before performing the procedures.
