Dental Veneers also called porcelain laminate veneers that are routinely used to correct dental diastemas, chipped tooth, discolourations, and malposition of teeth. Tooth discolourations that do not respond to bleaching are treated with PLVs or porcelain laminate veneers. Dental porcelain laminates are one of the most feasible treatment modalities adopted today due to its biocompatibility, longevity, aesthetic preservation and strength. Though conservative in nature, aesthetic veneers demonstrate exceptional clinical performance along with predictability. It is also one of the least invasive methods of treatment.

Two methods are used to place dental veneers:

Direct technique: the composite resin is directly applied to the surface of the tooth with no fabrication required

Indirect technique: the dental veneer is manufactured in a dental lab after an impression is recorded – Efficient CAD/CAM technology is used to obtain precise measurements and achieve a perfect fit. Process protocols at Dental Solutions include planning, preparation, temporization and cementation.

A complete oral examination is conducted preoperatively. Any periodontal disease, occlusal imbalances and active pathologies are resolved during the planning stage. PLV is an elective procedure and all risks, expectations and goals are discussed and understood by the patient. After a survey of the patients’ extra-oral anatomy an articulated aesthetic wax model is first prepared. This model plays a crucial role in the design and placement process.

During the preparatory stage, for effective veneer fabrication and placement, tooth removal may be necessitated. Tooth removal is exacted to provide sufficient PLV structure integration, space for the device, to accommodate midline shift, and remove any decay. 1 mm to 2 mm of tooth structure may be reduced to place the veneer.

To preserve aesthetics and sensitivity, temporization is a preferred sub-process for most patients. Temporary veneers are a matrix developed from the prepared wax articulation. Though transitional, it allows patients to visualize the final outcome of the placement during the preparatory tenure. After this trial phase an impression is taken for making the final structure.

Cementation is a highly skillful procedure with few experts accomplishing it to perfection. Surgeons at Dental Solutions are extremely well-trained and are adept at this meticulous and technically accurate process. All moisture control and anti-contamination protocols are strictly implemented at the clinic. The temporization is carefully removed and prepared teeth are thoroughly cleansed of all debris. Any residual cement is also debrided with pumice since the presence of any of these will impede the placement of veneers. A dual-cured resin or light-cured resin is used to bond the veneer in place.

At Dental Solutions, Bangalore

Placement of veneers is an intricate process and requires a clear understanding of patients’ expectations. Dental Solutions meticulously plan the complete placement procedure after providing patients with a full counsel on oral hygiene and routine oral care which are extremely important for effective PLV performance. Protocols at Dental Solutions require that all medical and dental principles are adhered to prior to the treatment.

Laminates and veneers have a very important role in DSD. Due to the predictability of laminates especially in anterior teeth restorations, they play an extensive part in interim repair. Interim restorations involve diagnostic mock-ups that enhance patient communication and help conserve tooth eliminating the need for unnecessary tooth reductions. Dr. Ramya is a licensed practitioner of DSD and only one of the few doctors who has the expertise to render DSD.
