COMPLETE DENTURES

What is a complete denture?

Complete dentures are artificial substitutes for absent upper and lower teeth. A recommended treatment option for patients with no teeth, it is fabricated in a dental laboratory after patient measurements are taken. It is helpful in restoring eating habits and valuable loss of speech. The appliances are removable and can reinstate smiles when the entire set of teeth is lost. The causes of teeth loss could be attributed to gum disease, decay, and / or trauma. Facial muscles tend to sag resulting in loss of facial appearance and impaired speech among other complications. At Dental Solutions, complete dentures are fashioned very close to the appearance and colour of natural teeth thereby preserving aesthetic semblances.

Types of complete dentures

Conventional dentures: Conventional dentures are extremely affordable as compared to implant supported dentures. The remaining teeth are extracted and the jaw is allowed to heal. These removable devices are then made to fit both the dental arches. The impressions of the mouth are taken, and the rims of the mouth are waxed to obtain measurements. The new wax teeth are set up and tried on to match the size, shape and colour. It is only after complete healing of the jaw line that the final dentures are placed.

Immediate dentures: Recommended for patients who still have natural teeth that have to be extracted, immediate dentures are prepared before the extrication of all natural teeth. It takes about 4 weeks for the immediate dentures to be produced. Immediate dentures are a planned process and are assembled in time for the complete extraction. They are placed into the mouth as soon as the extraction is completed. One of the biggest advantages of immediate dentures is the patients’ are not without teeth at any point in time. Even during the healing period, the immediate dentures can remain in the mouth.

Overdentures: Overdentures are a viable option for individuals where complete extraction of teeth is not implied. Dentures are yet placed over existing implants or when some natural teeth are still left in the mouth. Overdentures are placed after reshaping the natural teeth so that they can fit appropriately. They are attached to the existing implants or natural teeth.

BPS dentures: Biofunctional prosthetic systems or BPS dentures are prosthetics that are designed to perform biologically harmonious functions of mastication and speaking. They are comfortable and appear natural. Coordinated materials are used to fabricate BPS dentures. Patients’ personal data is meticulously analyzed to derive the dentures.

Denture soft liners: Dental Solutions recommends soft liners that act as shock absorbers between the dentures and gums. The surrounding bone after extraction of teeth undergoes resorption especially during the first six months of healing. There is a risk that dentures placed immediately could loosen during the progressive healing process. To avoid any unprecedented displacement of the dentures, a lining material of powder and liquid mixed together are applied to hold them in place. The dentures are gently fitted over the area and normal biting position is restored gradually. Denture soft liners are extremely comfortable, enable easy chewing and are a proven technology. Most or all patients respond well to soft liners.
